‘In her book The Language of Clothes, Alison Lurie states, “Long before I am near enough to talk to you on the street, in a meeting, or at a party, you announce your sex, age and class to me through what you are wearing - and very possibly give me important information (or misinformation) as to your occupation, origin, personality, opinions, tastes, sexual desires and current mood.” (1981a, 3). Even the person who shows a total lack of interest in fashion is making a statement. Each time we get dressed, we are choosing the clothes that will send a message to all those with whom we come in contact.’
